CETAF is a taxonomic research network formed by institutions of reference in Europe. Together, we hold 80% of the world's described biodiversity.
Taxonomy is the science of discovering, naming, describing and classifying the biodiversity of life. Taxonomy is practiced by taxonomists. Taxonomists bring order to the complex web of life on our planet by organising and classifying the world around us. This includes all plants, animals and microorganisms of the world, past and present! .In the past 250 years of research, taxonomists have named about 1.78 million species. Yet, the work of taxonomists is far from complete. The undescribed and unknown part of the living world is still greater than its recorded parts. Think of it as a massive iceberg. We know what’s above the surface, but no one knows how big the submerged part is.
