Geschiedenis

What is MUN? A Model UN conference is pretty much what its name implies – a conference organized to simulate the workings of United Nations bodies. Students play the role of delegates from a random country which is a member of the UN, and negotiate on a certain topic until they reach an agreement and are able to put forward for voting a carefully drafted resolution.

Every year the VUBMUN team participates in several such conferences. The main event is the large WorldMUN conference organized by Harvard University at a different location in the world each year. Anno 2015, WorldMUN will be held in Rome, Italy.

This year, VUBMUN will make the trip out to Italy, as well as to Oxford for a smaller but not less prestigious conference, OxiMUN at Oxford University. The team will also attend a local Security Council simulation, VVN-MUN, held in Brussels for all Flemish universities, followed by the LIMUN conference in London.

Through all of its activities VUBMUN attempts to reinforce the international spirit of the university. We provide not only social, but also academic contact with students and academic personnel of universities from all over the world. Also, we attempt to spread the interest and passion for international affairs among the student population.

The team is selected each year during the first few weeks of the academic year through a process of application and selection through interviews. Please check the website : www.vubmun.be for more details.

Aside from the main conferences, VUBMUN has been organizing its own mini-MUN conference at the VUB, CampusMUN, to give the general public a taste of a Model United Nations conference. This event is open to all VUB students, and is normally held in April-May. It has generated growing interest each year.
