USCA is a safe haven for artistic experiment and intellectual exchange. USCA was founded by independent curator Jan Van Woensel.
USCA: The Underground School of Contemporary Art is a one-month-long independent art school that offers artist's studios, art and art theory classes, in situ art production, lectures and debates, exhibition opportunities, curatorial education and residencies, film screenings, an in-house collection of contemporary art, research opportunities, a library, live music sessions, and more.
Housed in the former post office building in downtown Antwerp, USCA occupies a 2000m2 industrial space at 30 meters below street level. USCA's main goal is to provide a lively, multi-facetted platform for on-the-spot creative practice and scholarship. We offer a safe haven for artistic experiment and intellectual exchange to trained and self-trained emerging artists and curators, art professionals, and scholars and researchers.
USCA was founded by curator Jan Van Woensel in 2016 in collaboration with vzw Den Tunnel and Closer/Dichterbij: art, music and literature festival (16-20 nov).
