Thomas Stapleton was born in Fethard, Co Tipperary, Ireland in 1622 – son of Richard Stapleton and Elenor Meagher.
He was educated in the Irish Collage, Leuven and on August 31, 1661 he was elected Rector Magnificus of
the University City, leuven.
During the period 1661 to 1681 Thomas Stapleton was elected on 7 occasions by the faculties of Medicine & Common Law.
After his death in 1694, he was baried in St. Peters Church on the Grote Markt in Leuven.
A monument which was created to his menory shortly after his death can be found in St. Peters Church – in the chapel of St. Borremeo Cat.
