The SUSTLAW is a postgraduate programme run by the Law and Development Group at the Faculty of Law of the University of Antwerp in Belgium.
This program constitutes a centrepiece of the law and development group at the University of Antwerp efforts to bringing together sustainable development law and human rights law in one condense course. Moreover, it offers strong input from voices from the South, both in the course dealing with ‘law in developing countries’ as well as in the other courses, in which lecturers from the South are given an important role. The internationalization of its student body, faculty, curriculum, and members of the SUSTLAW postgraduate program has constituted a vibrant academic community noted for its diversity of interests and backgrounds. This is one of the greatest advantages that this program offers, aside along with European scholars dedicated to the field of human rights and sustainable development, recognized experts from the South that can bring ‘on the ground’ perspective to an interdisciplinary field, all in one academic environment. Through our program, we are working to train the next generation of leaders in academia, government, and non-profit and non-governmental organizations worldwide.
