KRIEG is a non-profit exhibition space for contemporary art, founded in 2016 by PXL-MAD School of Arts (Hasselt). At the heart of KRIEG’s programme, which is led by a desire to test art's purpose outside the market place, is a remit to commission and produce art and discourse.
At a pace of three solo projects per year, KRIEG exhibits promising artists with an experimental approach, as well as established artists from the recent past, who have somehow escaped institutional attention.
Supporting the production and presentation of new forms of artistic practice, KRIEG’s programme remains improvisatory and un-dogmatic, and is rooted in an intense dynamic that is fuelled by the many diverse encounters with visiting artists, Bachelor and Master students and the permanent teaching staff. KRIEG’s location in between many major art hubs is a crucial part of its identity.
