The Jesuit European Social Centre is an organisation of the Society of Jesus, based in Brussels, that collaborates and publishes on social issues concerning Europe. It is a separate legal entity which operates within the Jesuit Conference of European Provincials.ActivityIt engages with the EU institutions and with ecclesial institutions such as the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community (COMEC) and the Conference of European Churches (CEC).JESC cultivates and propagates relationships, whilst developing initiatives on a variety of themes ranging from Mineral Resources (especially the issue of conflict minerals) in Africa, to European Citizenship and Ecology. In JESC’s role co-ordinating an international ecology network it produces a bi-monthly online publication, Ecojesuit. Further collaboration is undertaken with COMECE in producing a monthly journal, EuropInfos. JESC seeks to operate in concert with other Jesuit works, whilst working with the poor and marginalised. In pursuit of solidarity beyond the borders of Europe, the Jesuits participate in networks with NGOs and volunteer programs.It is an 'Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif' under Belgian law since 29 March 2012.HistoryAs of 1 January 2012, JEO-OCIPE was restructured and became JESC. JESC is included in the EU's Transparency Register, within the Section V: Organisations, which represents churches and religious communities with the identification number 73391376305-20.
