The IEEE Student Branch of Ghent has a purpose of representing IEEE at Ghent University. We unite students with an interest in electronic, electrical, mechanical or computer engineering.
We offer a pleasant program which includes both technical-scientific activities and cultural-social activities. In 2000 there was no longer a leading committee so the Student Branch became inactive. However, since 2006 a new team of active branch officers was found to bring the IEEE Student Branch Gent back to life. The student branch has made an evolution in being led by doctoral researchers to a student driven association.
Although IEEE is a professional organisation, about 100 000 of the IEEE members are student members. Engineering students use IEEE to get a feel of the professional engineering field and learn more about advancing technology. To get students in touch with IEEE, every mayor university has an IEEE Student Branch. Led by students or researchers, a student branch organises activities fit for students with a general purpose: learn more about technology, get a taste of the engineering profession, train professional skills outside the university environment, indulge in research, help getting a job, create a platform for their research publication, challenge them by competitions or... just organise enjoyable activities.
