Since the Middle Ages, Antwerp has been at the heart of an important textile industry, weaving, dying, finishing and trading in cloth. The refined artistic sensibilities of the Golden Age spilled over into a 17th century characterised by rich style and a thriving clothing trade. After centuries following the elegant fashion set by Paris, Antwerp developed its own distinctive fashion voice during the second half of the 20th century. "Goût d'Anvers" is an expression of this.
