1999, to celebrate the Millenium François COORENS marks the occasion and started to paint a canvas a day during the last hundred days before hitting the year 2000, the canvas were designed around the theme of Grendizer. One Picasso’s quote gave the last big boost to launch the artist career, an incredible coincidence. “Inspired by Picasso, I was using a diary as a logbook, the quote of the day on the 31st of December was: “If there was only one truth, then painting a hundred canvases around one theme would not be possible. Picasso””.
The “Goldomania” (Grendizermania) will be exposed on theatre Marni in Brussels. Many exhibitions, different themes collections will follow. “Les pirates de luxe” (Luxury pirates, 7 serigraphs, Belgian DJ portraits,…), “Les Pucelles de Bruxelles” (Virgins from Brussels, 17 paintings, displaying dazzling women faces), « Oscar Goldman » or « Supervixen » and « Vegetal Coriace » . A contemporary artist with punk and rock influences, his figurative and deconstructed artwork occurred by accident. “One day I accidently upturned an expensive paint pot on a piece of work while painting, to save some of it I started scraping the canvas. What came out of it amazed me and the result actually pleased me. My style was there”. The gifted and creative François Coorens artwork had made him the One Belgian artist to watch. His paintings tell many stories, in one hand they look familiar displaying lots of our references, and on the other hand, they are unseen stories never been told before. The use of acrylic paint and other materials create a deconstructed artwork done with a pictorial technique which reflects the artist total control of his art.
Journey. François Coorens was born in 1971 in Charleroi. As a boy, he is a huge fan of Grendizer and masters his pictorial technique creating tons of drawings about his superhero. Later, the artist will become a graphic designer interested by art. His painting career takes off in 1999 with the “Goldomania” collection (Grendizer collection).
