The origin of our society followed the various European Symposia on Calcium Binding Proteins in Normal and Transformed Cells that were initiated under the impulsion of Roland Pochet, Claus Heizmann, Jacques Haiech and Rosario Donato.
In 1997 the “European Calcium Society” or ECS was officially created, and web site and newsletter were launched. Subsequent scientific meetings were organised on a two-year basis (Munster, 1998; Paris, 2000; Brussels, 2002; Cambridge, 2004; Strasbourg, 2006; Leuven, 2008; Warsaw, 2010).
More recently, it was decided to organise between the meetings also more focused workshops (Seix, 2007; Smolenice, 2009).
The next workshop and meetings are scheduled again in Seix (2011) and in Toulouse (2012), respectively.
The ECS is proud to have a large number of young members, and to support attendance of junior researchers to its meetings, by attributing travel grants and poster prizes.
The Board of the ECS is since the General Assembly held in Warsaw (2010) composed of:
S. Moss (UK) - President
M. Moreau (France) - Vice-President
J.B. Parys (Belgium) - Secretary-General
R. Pochet (Belgium) - Treasurer
V. Gerke (Germany)
C. Heizmann (Switzerland)
J. Kuznicki (Poland)
C. Leclerc (France)
(overwiew by J. Parys)
