Info Citree is a collaborative project between University of Innsbruck and University of Ghent to monitor growth of trees in cities using citizen science. Geschiedenis The citizen science project CITREE aims at developing and using a crowdsourcing tool to monitor growth of urban trees. City trees fulfil functions such as filtering urban pollutants, cooling the air and improving the physical and mental health of urban inhabitants. Monitoring of urban trees is important as climate change puts continuous stress to trees worldwide. In cities, drought and heat are generally more intense together with air pollution, limited root space and plant diseases. This makes trees in cities 'living laboratories' which could help us to better understand the effects of global warming on forested ecosystems.
