* La Bibliotheca Wittockiana est le seul musée au monde qui soit principalement consacré à la reliure d’art. Y est conservée une collection unique de décors de reliure témoignant de l’évolution des styles à travers cinq siècles, depuis la Renaissance jusqu’aux créations contemporaines.
Outre cette prestigieuse collection constituée par l’industriel et bibliophile Michel Wittock, le musée conserve également divers ensembles remarquables tels le cabinet du poète Valère-Gille, grand-père du fondateur de la Wittockiana et dernier directeur de la Jeune Belgique, le fonds Lucien Bonaparte (livres, lettres, photographies) ainsi que de nombreux livres d’artistes contemporains, des livres-objets et des sculptures. Enfin, la Bibliotheca Wittockiana abrite une collection unique de quelque 500 hochets précieux, ensemble étonnant et insolite qui provient du monde entier et couvre une période de quarante siècles d’histoire.
Des expositions temporaires, sur les thèmes de la reliure et du livre, sont organisées chaque année par la Wittockiana qui est également un lieu de rencontre et de création d’événements. Un atelier de reliure vient compléter le tout, donnant chaque jour un nouvel élan à la reliure de création.

* De Bibliotheca Wittockiana is het enige museum ter wereld dat hoofdzakelijk gewijd is aan de boekbindkunst. Men bewaart er een unieke verzameling boekbanden die een stijlevolutie tonen doorheen vijf eeuwen boekbinden, van de Renaissance tot de hedendaagse creaties.
Deze prestigieuze collectie werd samengebracht door de industrieel en bibliofiel Michel Wittock. Het museum herbergt ook verschillende merkwaardige ensembles zoals het cabinet van de dichter Valère-Gille, grootvader van de stichter van de Wittockiana en de laatste directeur van “La Jeune Belgique”, maar ook het fonds Lucien Bonaparte (boeken, brieven, foto’s) naast een aanzienlijk aantal artiestenboeken, hedendaagse boekontwerpen en beeldhouwwerken. Tot slot bezit de Bibliotheca Wittockiana een unieke verzameling van ongeveer 500 rammelaars, een ongewoon en verbazend geheel dat meer dan veertig eeuwen geschiedenis omspant vanuit de ganse wereld.
Elk jaar organiseert de Bibliotheca Wittockiana tijdelijke tentoonstellingen rond het thema boek en boekbinden. Daarnaast figureert de Wittockiana ook als ontmoetingsplaats en stimulerende plek voor creatieve gebeurtenissen. Een boekbindersatelier komt het geheel vervolledigen om een vernieuwende vlucht te geven aan het boekbinden.

*The Bibliotheca Wittockiana is the only museum in the world devoted exclusively to bookbinding and book arts. Founded by Michel Wittock, it houses his outstanding collection of bindings which illustrate the changes in ornamental styles from the Renaissance to the present day.
Apart from this prestigious collection, the museum is home to remarkable ensembles such as the work room of the poet Valère-Gille, grandfather of Wittockiana’s founder and last director of the Jeune Belgique literary publication, the Lucien Bonaparte fund (books, letters, photographs) as well as numerous contemporary artists’ books, book-objects, and sculptures. Lastly, the Bibliotheca Wittockiana holds a unique collection of some 500 rattles, an astounding and unusual ensemble from around the world covering a period of forty centuries of history.
Every year temporary exhibitions are held, covering all aspects of book arts. The Bibliotheca Wittockiana is also a place to meet and create events. A bookbinding workshop has been installed, breathing new life into the art of bookbinding on a daily basis.

"The Wittockiana is a public museum and public library located in Brussels in Belgium devoted to the arts of the book and of bookbinding.The museum is based on the personal collection of Michel Wittock, an industrialist and bibliophile. The library was opened to the public in 1983. Since 2010, the museum has been managed in collaboration with the King Baudouin Foundation, to which the Wittock collection has been donated and the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles."
