Bijzonder’s ever-changing collection of carefully curated second hand objects promotes the uniqueness behind thrifting and recuperating.
Bijzonder [biˈzɔn.dər] is a Dutch word; translated to English, it would approximate to “special, unusual, peculiar“. While many people tend to hear a negative connotation, we do believe in the beauty of quirkiness.
Bijzonder’s ever-changing collection of carefully curated second hand objects promotes the uniqueness behind thrifting and recuperating.
We believe that new isn’t necessarily better; it’s formatted, standardised, made to please, almost boring. Second hand and vintage objects are unique and thus irreplaceable. Every object on this shop is one-of-a-kind, you won’t find it in your friend’s or your sister’s house.
Bijzonder was founded and is curated by creative freelancer Nadia Kara, based on a personal passion for beautiful things and snooping around:
“I find more value in things that have a story, and collecting forgotten objects to give them a new life has become like a second nature to me. I like scratches and dents, I like things that have lived”.
Bijzonder shop is currently based in Antwerp, Belgium.
